Please feel free to join us on the first Wednesday of every month from 6-7:30pm for our book discussions. At our first meeting, we decided the most democratic way of holding this book club was to draw names out of a hat and each of us select a book we'd love to share. This is a great way to get to know each other, and to read something you might not grab off the shelf on your own.

CHARITY KNITTING

A HUGE hug and thank-you to all that contributed in Fall of 2008 to the Tammy Twitchell Crafts Foundation. The support for Loops of Love through the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Interact Club was an amazing contribution! The funds raised from the scarf sales have allowed the foundation to continue to provide financial assistance to patients and families with cystic fibrosis.

PET PROJECT: BRIDGING PEOPLE

This weekend I made three teddy bear sweaters and hats, and I felt GREAT knowing that three individuals were going to feel loved by receiving their bears from this wonderful local organization.

2,000 "BEAR HUGS" GIVEN ANNUALLY

WHAT ARE BEAR HUGS?


“Bear Hugs” are teddy bears, dressed with handmade sweaters and hats, filled with love by people who care. Our bears are a symbol of comfort and love to those who receive them.

Volunteers, from senior citizens to school children, lovingly make more than 2,000 bear sweaters and hats each year. Children, residents in assisted living and skilled nursing, and community groups fill our bears with their special hugs and healing love as they dress them.

The bears also have a positive affect on our volunteers. In the words of one of our homebound knitters, “I was so happy when I found this project; it makes me feel so good.” Another volunteer told us, "I knit love into every stitch." A Girl Scout volunteer said, "It's not everyday that kids get to help with something this important."

WHO RECEIVES BEAR HUGS?

Groups and Organizations

Many groups and organizations receive our "Bear Hugs" for their clients. The groups we support provide services to children who are abused or neglected and to children with serious and life threatening illnesses. We also support organizations working with: cancer, hospice, and bereavement groups. Our bears also go to women with cancer.

Individuals

Bridging People and Places gives Bear Hugs each year to individuals who experience personal crisis, the loss of a loved one, or encounter a serious life threatening disease.

Please go to bridgingpeople.org to view more about this organization, and download patterns for the sweaters. All sweaters can be dropped off to us, and we'll get the sweaters to the organization. Think of the happiness you can bring!!!

We have two wonderful knit sessions:
KNIT NIGHT - Thursdays 6:00-8:00
TUESDAY TEA - Tuesdays 2-4
Bring your current projects or start new ones. Enjoy the company of your fellow knitters. This is planned as a SOCIAL time for everyone - not a help session. Remember: help is available on Thursdays from 4-6 and as time allows during normal store hours.Prepare to laugh!

We always try to help you with a project that you've purchased from us. Sometimes, though, we're either too busy with sales or the help required is extensive! We offer this time with Christene to come in, sit, and get expert professional help in an unhurried manner! Just show up!
